The Heart of the Matter: Trust

This week we are wrapping up our series, The Heart of the Matter, and I will be so sad to finish this one up! The last several weeks have been so convicting as we looked at topics like Pride, Anger, Control, and Guilt. The idea that we have been working through is the thought that all of these identity crises are misunderstandings about God and who He is.
This weekend, as we close out the series, we will look at the idea of Trust and that trust is a misunderstanding of God’s goodness. And if you’re anything like me, this weekend's topic is going to really hit home! Before we head to services this weekend, or tune in online, I just want to prepare our hearts for what God is going to do through the word given. Here are some scriptures to meditate on regarding trust:
Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
We’ve all heard this one, and probably know it well. But this idea of not relying on what WE know and submitting to the truth that God is so much bigger than the finite amount of knowledge we have is huge!
Jeremiah 17:7-8: "But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear Fruit."
What a beautiful reminder that though the storms of life come, and they will, trusting in the Lord is the one steady, and the one thing we can fully rely on. We know it will not waver!
Psalm 28:7: "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him."
When all else fails, when the storm rages and the world feels too overwhelming, we can turn to praise.
As we prepare our hearts and minds for what the message this weekend holds, let's ask the Lord to begin to show us the areas of our lives that we are not fully trusting in Him, and ask Him to begin to prune those areas out.
