Encouragement for Mothers

This upcoming Sunday is Mother’s Day! If you forgot, I give you full permission to put down this blog, rush to the store, and grab whatever is left from the selection of cheesy cards and overpriced flowers.

If you're a mom yourself, this upcoming holiday can be full of complex feelings, joyful or painful. Maybe this is your first Mother’s Day without your own mom, and grief is still overwhelming. Maybe you’re celebrating your first Mother’s Day with your precious baby and you’re so grateful. Maybe you're a single mom, so Sunday will be just as exhausting as the days before. Maybe you’re a mama without a baby yet, praying fervently for a miracle.

Wherever you are this Mother’s Day, I want you to know how much Jesus loves you, sees you, and cares for your heart. Being a mother is a high calling, and God is so intentional in the way He has designed Biblical motherhood.

Today, I hope this post brings you some encouragement for the journey that motherhood is. The most incredible (though sometimes difficult) job that God has blessed you with.

1: You were created, and given the children you have, for exactly this time and place. Acts 17:26 says, "from one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.” It isn’t an accident that you were given the family and children that you have, right now, in this place. There is something so comforting knowing that all the details have been worked out because your family needs you and needs you to show them the love of Jesus!

2: Motherhood is a balance of growth pruning, leading out and dialing in, filling and breaking. Let the process be. I believe so strongly that part of God’s heart for motherhood is allowing us to grow into a better version of ourselves, one that better mirrors the heart of God and Christ’s character. But that doesn’t just magically happen the day you become a mom! The process is slow, sometimes painful, and requires a huge amount of surrender. But it is so good. When we allow God to remove the junk that hinders who He’s called us to be, our kids get a first-row seat to sanctification. And that is priceless.

3: You have the opportunity to set the table for your children to know, love, and follow Jesus. What an unbelievable honor that is! Through your relationship with Christ, your daily walk, and what you allow to permeate your home, you're helping your kids lay a foundation for life. Genesis 18:19 says, “For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, so that the LORD will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.” The promises of God are real, and they are true and good. When we model this lifestyle for our children and families, we are walking in the blessings God has promised for us! This is MEANINGFUL work.

My prayer for all of the mamas at The Creek is to know how truly loved you are! We are endlessly thankful for all of you who work so hard, day in and day out, to create homes and relationships with your children that honor the Lord, walk in His ways, and create a life-long foundation of trust in Jesus.

What you do every single day is so important. From the sleepless nights, to the never-ending meal preparation and chores, to the still, small moments where you love on your babies, you are amazing!

Happy Mother’s Day Creek moms, we love you.
