On the blog this week, we are SO excited to introduce you to Michael Escamilla and help you get to know him a little better! He is serving as our Associate Pastor and is overseeing our Azle Campus, and we are so grateful that the Lord brought him and his precious family to The Creek! Here's a little about Michael:
1. Tell us about yourself!
Hey there! I’m super excited to share a bit about my life! I grew up in a lively household with my mom and dad, who were full-time pastors. Talk about a house filled with love, laughter, and the occasional sermon! My mom still lives with us here in beautiful Azle, TX. I have one brother who’s also following in the family footsteps as a pastor on the Eastside of Dallas.
Now, let me tell you about my incredible wife, Lynnelle. We met when she was just 16—on her birthday, no less! I guess you could say it was a divine appointment at her home church. We both graduated from Southwestern in Waxahachie, TX, and we’ve been on this thrilling journey of full-time ministry for over 22 years together! We’re blessed with three amazing kids: Abbi, who, along with her husband, Cody, serves at New Covenant Church in Edmond, Oklahoma. We are expecting our first grand baby in December!! Malachi, who is making waves at Calvary Church in Naperville, IL; and our youngest, Lilli, who is in her junior year of high school. As it says in Proverbs 17:6, "Children’s children are a crown to the aged," and I feel like the most blessed crown wearer!
2. What is a fun fact about yourself that people may not know?
Here’s a fun twist: I was a basketball fanatic in high school! Picture this: me, in full-on game mode, dribbling like I was on my way to the NBA. I even got recruited to play for Syracuse University! Who would have thought? And here’s a funny tidbit—I’m Mexican, but I can’t speak a lick of Spanish. I guess I missed that memo!
3. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Oh, if I had to choose one meal to savor for eternity, it would definitely be a fiesta for my taste buds! Start me off with some delicious chips and queso, then hit me with a chimichanga served with rice and beans. And let’s not forget dessert—Moose Tracks ice cream with melted peanut butter on top, is the ultimate treat! It’s like heaven on a spoon!
4. What made you passionate about ministry? Why do you love it?
My passion for ministry stems from one powerful command: Jesus’ call to make disciples. It’s like a mission that never ends—imagine a chain reaction of faith! Matthew 28:19-20 rings true: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” That’s what lights my fire! I love seeing people transform, grow in their faith, and become passionate about sharing the Gospel themselves. It’s the ultimate joy—watching others step into their calling and keep the cycle going!
5. Tell us a little bit about the heart behind what you do each week.
At the heart of my ministry is a simple yet profound principle: loving God and loving people. It’s like the ultimate two-for-one deal! Deuteronomy 6:5 says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength…love your neighbor as yourself.” I strive to pour out that love in everything I do, whether it’s leading a service, mentoring someone, or just being a listening ear. It’s all about reflecting Christ’s love to our community and beyond!
6. What is your favorite hobby outside of work and church?
When I’m not in ministry mode, you’ll find me working out, soaking up quality time with family and friends, and cracking up at stand-up comedy! There’s something special about laughter—it’s a balm for the soul. Nate Bargatze is my go-to for a good laugh; he’s hilarious! It reminds me of Proverbs 17:22: “A cheerful heart is good medicine.” So, let’s keep that laughter flowing!
The next time you see Michael, make sure to give him some Mexican food recs or ask him to show off some basketball skills! We love you, Michael!
